Judges 1:1 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 <\/sup>After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the LORD, \u201cWho will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 1:2 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>The LORD answered, \u201cJudah is to go; I have given the land into their hands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 1:3 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 <\/sup>Then the men of Judah said to the Simeonites their brothers, \u201cCome up with us into the territory allotted to us, to fight against the Canaanites. We in turn will go with you into yours.\u201d So the Simeonites went with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 1:4 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>When Judah attacked, the LORD gave the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 <\/sup>It was there that they found Adoni-Bezek and fought against him, putting to rout the Canaanites and Perizzites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>Adoni-Bezek fled, but they chased him and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>Then Adoni-Bezek said, \u201cSeventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have picked up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.\u201d They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 <\/sup>The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem also and took it. They put the city to the sword and set it on fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 <\/sup>After that, the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country, the Negev and the western foothills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 <\/sup>They advanced against the Canaanites living in Hebron (formerly called Kiriath Arba) and defeated Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11 <\/sup>From there [Judah] went against the inhabitants of Debir. The name of Debir before was Kiriath-sepher [city of books and scribes].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 <\/sup>And Caleb said, \u201cI will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 <\/sup>Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb\u2019s younger brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 <\/sup>And [the tribe of] Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath and utterly destroyed it. So the city was called Hormah [destruction].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 <\/sup>And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said. Then he expelled from there the three sons of Anak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22 <\/sup>Now the house of Joseph attacked Bethel, and the LORD was with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>So the house of Joseph sent men to spy out Bethel. (The name of the city was<\/em> formerly Luz.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 <\/sup>the spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, \u201cShow us how to get into the city and we will see that you are treated well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 <\/sup>So he showed them, and they put the city to the sword but spared the man and his whole family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 <\/sup>The angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, \u201cI brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I swore to give to your forefathers. I said, \u2018I will never break my covenant with you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.\u2019 But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 <\/sup>They forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14 <\/sup>The anger of the Lord blazed against Israel; and he handed them over to pillagers, who plundered them, and to their enemies around them; so that they could no longer resist their enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 <\/sup>Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the LORD was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 <\/sup>When the Lord raised them up judges, then He was with the judge and delivered them out of the hands of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to relent because of their groanings by reason of those who oppressed and vexed them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 <\/sup>But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their fathers, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 <\/sup>Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel and said, \u201cBecause this nation has violated the covenant that I laid down for their forefathers and has not listened to me,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 <\/sup>I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>The LORD had allowed those nations to remain; he did not drive them out at once by giving them into the hands of Joshua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Judges Chapter 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:1 (NLT2)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 <\/sup>These are the nations that the LORD left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:2 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>(he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:3 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 <\/sup>the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the Lebanon mountains from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:4 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>They were left to test the Israelites to see whether they would obey the LORD\u2019s commands, which he had given their forefathers through Moses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 <\/sup>The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>They took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD; they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 <\/sup>The anger of the LORD burned against Israel so that he sold them into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim, to whom the Israelites were subject for eight years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 <\/sup>But when they cried out to the LORD, he raised up for them a deliverer, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb\u2019s younger brother, who saved them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 <\/sup>The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, so that he became Israel\u2019s judge and went to war. The LORD gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 <\/sup>Getting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join him, Eglon came and attacked Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14 <\/sup>The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:15 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 <\/sup>Again the Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he gave them a deliverer\u2013Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite. The Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:16 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 <\/sup>Now Ehud had made a double-edged sword about a foot and a half long, which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 <\/sup>He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was a very fat man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 <\/sup>After Ehud had presented the tribute, he sent on their way the men who had carried it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 <\/sup>But he himself, after reaching the quarries at Gilgal, went back and said, \u201cKing, I have a secret message for you.\u201d The king commanded silence, and all his attendants withdrew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:20 (CJB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 <\/sup>Ehud came to him; he was sitting alone by himself in his upstairs room, where it was cool. Ehud said: \u201cI have a message from God for you.\u201d As the king arose from his seat,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 3:21 (CJB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 <\/sup>Ehud reached out with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into the king\u2019s belly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22 <\/sup>Even the handle sank in after the blade, which came out his back. Ehud did not pull the sword out, and the fat closed in over it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>Then Ehud went out to the porch; he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 <\/sup>After he had gone, the servants came and found the doors of the upper room locked. They said, \u201cHe must be relieving himself in the inner room of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 <\/sup>They waited a long time until they became embarrassed and<\/em> uneasy, but when he still did not open the doors of the upper room, they took the key and opened them, and there lay their master fallen to the floor, dead!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26 <\/sup>But while they were delaying, Ehud escaped\u2014 he passed beyond the quarries and arrived safely in Se\u2018irah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

27 <\/sup>And it happened, when he arrived, that he blew the trumpet in the mountains of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mountains; and he led them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

28 <\/sup>\u201cFollow me,\u201d he ordered, \u201cfor the LORD has given Moab, your enemy, into your hands.\u201d So they followed him down and, taking possession of the fords of the Jordan that led to Moab, they allowed no one to cross over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

29 <\/sup>At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all vigorous and strong; not a man escaped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 <\/sup>After Ehud died, the Israelites once again did evil in the eyes of the LORD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 4:2 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>So the LORD sold them into the hands of Jabin, a king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth Haggoyim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges 4:3 (AMP)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 <\/sup>Then the Israelites cried to the Lord, for [Jabin] had 900 chariots of iron and had severely oppressed the Israelites for twenty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
